Interview with Felicia and Kristin @ FIT in NYC

I met with Felicia and Kristin, graduates of EDL. They are now in NYC at FIT (Fashion Institute of Technology) studying Fashion Design.

It was a great opportunity to interview them and get their reaction to the school, their major, and NYC.

EDL - What was most unexpected about going to school @ FIT?

F & K - Fashion art and design classes are 4 hours long. Also, we found that sewing is not mandatory but it helps to know.

K - You draw quite a few croquis, so practice them from now so that you are prepared.

F - They teach croquis drawing using shapes.

Great Opportunity

Both Kristin and Felicia had an opportuntity to work behind the scenes at Olympus week (Fashion week in NYC). It was a great experience to be behind the scenes. Felicia was able to volunteer for Lacoste, Rosa Cha and Diane Von Furstenburg shows.

FIT

The Fashion design program is one of the hardest FIT has to offer. FIT has just revised the Fashion program by adding more classes. There were over 2,500 applicants applying for the fashion design program. They only admitted 200.

Dorms I was able to go to their dorm rooms to see the living areas. They were just fine. Based on their schedule, they don’t spend much time in there rooms.

EDL - Favorite areas in NYC so far?

F - Loves Central Park (I must agree it’s great) & the Village

K - Loves the West Village and Upper Westside

EDL - Advise to EDL students

K - Go for it! You must be focused on being a designer. Give it 100%.

F - Recommends going studying in NYC.

FIT - both felt it was a good choice – having real life experience.
